2020年12月14日，用户MrZSAC将这首歌传到WatZatSong请求网友识曲。他表示自己在Dailymotion上一个80年代意大利电视台播出的体育节目视频中听到了这首歌。该节目是意大利广播电视公司（RAI）于1983年6月5日播出的《La Domenica Sportiva》，节目末尾有一段赛艇比赛的剪辑，这首歌被用作这段剪辑的背景音乐。在节目的制作人员名单中并没有提到歌手是谁。这首歌几乎立刻就获得了人气，到2023年底有大量爱好者对这首歌产生兴趣。

有人推测这首歌是意大利广播电视公司购买的罐头音乐，公司可能有一个乐库，其中就包含这首歌。然而，Reddit用户One-Truth-5867（此人随后解决了失传媒体史上最著名谜题之一的[[everyone-knows-that |Everyone Knows That]]）联系了意大利广播电视公司的一位编导，编导表示不知道这首歌是谁唱的。

一位名叫Massimo Vita的意大利歌手一度被认为是这首歌的演唱者，因为其曲风和声线与这首歌颇为相似。

= 发现 =

2024年2月25日，Reddit用户MJIgaz4对比了这首歌与意大利歌手Piero Cotto的声线，二者听起来完全相同。

2024年3月15日，有人联系了Piero Cotto的儿子，其确认他的父亲演唱了这首歌。第二天，Piero Cotto本人亲自证实这首歌是他1983年创作的《Johnny in the Middle of the Park》。

Piero Cotto的众多歌曲是以他的制作人Aldo Pagani和Logan Michael名义在版权部门登记的，而未直接登记Piero Cotto自己的名字。4月12日，Discord用户Nel发现这首歌的版权人信息中增加了Piero Cotto。
